Bicycle Suggestions?

I am a regular mountain biker, but as the road-trip, too. However, my full suspension is a drama too much for even my rigid pavement is too heavy for road trips. I want something lighter and more sensitive. The problem is that I'm not super friend "feel" of road bikes. Vi Trek (my favorite) was "Bicycle fitness and" urban "and bikes I wonder if anyone can tell me what are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing a gym or urban bike a road bike? THANK YOU! :) Just to add a fitness bike not a bike stationary or a piece of gym equipment. This is a current style and urban road cycling, mountain, tri-bike, etc. I was just hoping someone cycling with good knowledge had some information about what might be the best option.
